To provide superior lighting services through micro grid facilities at a lower monthly cost in comparison to kerosene. Apart from that provide portable water with the same facilty. The innovation is based on minimum charge for the use of both light and water. This is the low cost model. Gram panchayat will be the nodel agancy of the village to operate the facility. It is the Gram panchayat, which will decide on the monthly charges on use of light based on the number of light points and water. Bank account will be opened in to deposit collection for future use. These facilities will provide superior lighting through multiple light points with lower monthly cost compared to kerosene. Its low capital and operational costs make it commercially viable with projected returns for maintainace within the periods of less than five years. Gram Panchayat will decide on the location and installation point and care and construction of over head water tank. Apart from that , it will decide on the timing of light and water provision. In Jharkhand ,sun light is very good and the electricty produced whole day will not be utilized for light;thus, with the same system , two to three hours of water is pumped, water will be enough to meet the basic needs. Water will be stored in the overhead tank and released moring and evening as per the decision of the GP. Light too will be provided both in the moring and evening.

Problem

The Primitive Tribe communities in Sahinganj district of Jharkhand reside 2000 feet above the land at the top of the mountain with no light, unclean portable water. Use kerosine lamp at night. Even today, they use water of the stream , chuwa or stagnate river water for drinking ,bathing purposes, which are accessable by both human being and animals. water scarcity is affecting hygine and sanitation as well. The tribal community does not take bath every day but sometimes once in 6 days.

Solution

Installation of Mera Gao Power will be used both for light and pumping portable water. Light will be provided from 6.30 PM to 11PM at night and 4.30AM to 5.30AM in the moring so that the students will be able to study. Openwell or a borewell will be dug and water will be pumpled through solar sytem to store in the overhead tank. The water will be filled during the day and it will be released for use in the moring and evening. Rest of the time, battery will be charged to provide light.

Target Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries are 50 Primitive tribal (Asur, Birhor, Birajia, Korwa, Parahiya (Baiga), Sabar, Mal Pahariya and Souriya Pahariya) villages located at the top of the moutanin. The villages with minimum 20 housholds in Sahibganj district of Jharkhand,India. Total 10000 direct and 25600 indirect beneficiaries will benefit from this project. The primitive tribal villages, which are hard to reach, without electricity, road and transportation faciltiy will be covered under this project.

Mission and Vision

VISION to establish a self reliant, exploitation free, healthy and just society; where no one remains thirsty, illiterate ,unhealthy , and unhygienic. MISSION is to organize and empower the under privileged and marginal section of the rural society to take-up Mera Gao Power activities in a manner that it will ensure higher participation of the rural poor and marginalized section in the village in the mainstream of development.

Competitive Advantage

Till date, all the innovation is with single objective. The innovation that we are proposing is with multiple objectives. (1) Meets the need of the light. (2) Provides portable water. (3) Assists to maintain good health ,hygine and sanitation. (4) Low cost and sustainable model. (5) Managed by Gram panchayat.

Planned Goals and Milestones

To Make Mera Goa power project realistic in 50 Primitive tribal villages of Sahibganj District of Jharkhand,India. The tribal villages, which are located at the top of the mountain. Installation and training gram panchayat who know very little national languate to operate micro solar grid (Mera Gao Power) within projected time and make this model replicable. The language which they speak is spoken only by their own community.
