Innovation Description

To learn how how mobile banking can facilitate the activities of microenterprises.
How does your innovation work?
To the best of our knowledge, the proposed study will be the first to test for the relative importance, complementarity and sustainability of low-cost interventions that leverage accessible technology to promote the development of microenterprises. The project will first evaluate the role of cell-phone technology (mobile banking) in facilitating savings by providing access to interest-accruing savings accounts with an automatic savings commitment device.

Planned Goals and Milestones

They will then study the impact of a financial training program aimed at assisting microenterprises to efficiently manage micro-savings and work towards building more long-term financial assets for their businesses, by over-laying a randomized business training course to the previous intervention. This project will be implemented In collaboration with the Mozambique’s largest cell operator Carteira Movel.
